Crossrail invited AIF (Access Industry Forum) to present updates on work at height issues at their Contractors Forum in October 2011. Crossrail’s intention is to deliver ‘world class’ standards at every stage of the project and working at height safety is fundamental to this objective.

Representatives from AIF covered issues including:

  • Latest developments in mobile access tower and low level access technology and standards
  • Best practice for working in MEWPS in confined spaces
  • Safety Net installation and testing protocol
  • Scaffolding assembly in accordance with SG4:10
  • Industry recommendations on scaffolding inspection
  • Latest developments in edge protection technology
  • Safe and correct use for suspended access equipment during the construction process
  • Fall arrest and personal fall protection equipment

AIF also discussed some of their industry collaborative initiatives with the Contractors and how Crossrail and AIF may continue to work closely together in the future to maintain ‘world class’ excellence.
