Why Use a FASET Member to
Install your Safety Netting?
On Wednesday 22nd June 2011, 2 roofers lives were saved by the safety
netting installed by a FASET Safety Net Rigging Company.
The roofers concerned were
working on the roof when a 'freak' gust of wind picked up a composite
roof panel and knocked them both off the roof into the safety netting
below.
The main contractor
immediately instigated the "site work at height rescue plan" and the
roofers were lowered down to the ground where they received treatment
for the injuries sustained by the initial impact.
This is a stark reminder
that when selecting a Safety Net Installation Company you must ensure
that not only are the 'Riggers' certified with the appropriate CSCS
FASET Skills Card but the products they are installing are
appropriate, and are maintained and inspected to the highest
standards.
Ensuring that the safety
nets used meet the required standard is a major theme of the FASET
biennial Health & Safety Audit which every member must pass.
Therefore before asking your
employees or persons under your control to work above a safety net,
you must ensure that the safety nets installed are compliant.
To ensure you have taken
every possible precaution, ask to see the company's Annual FASET
Membership Certificate for proof of the organisation’s membership of
FASET.
