APS Fellows
Forum
15th September 2010,
Manchester University
Fellows of APS are recognised as
exceptional CDM practitioners. Each year the APS hold a convention
which commences with a dedicated discussion to 'Fellows' led by
leading authorities in their field. In September 2010 the AIF were
invited to present to the Fellows Forum.
(excerpt from 'Digest', produced by the Association for
Project Safety)
The second half of the afternoon
saw the Access Industry Forum (AIF) talking about their role in the
industry as an umbrella body for all practical and technical work at-
height solutions providers and Associations (see the APS website for
full details of the AIF members). The AIF provided an overview of the
issues facing the industry and especially Designers and CDM
co-ordinators when taking part in related activities to “manage” work
at height. The AIF is in a working partnership with APS and if members
have technical work at height questions they should visit the Members’
area of our new website and follow the link there.
One key issue that caused debate
was the identified need for raised awareness (and knowledge!) of
Designers and CDM-Cs about the requirements of the Work at Height Regs
and CDM given the related, but overlapping, requirements for a
hierarchy of response under WAH and the principles of prevention under
CDM. There was an identified opportunity for AIF and APS to work
together more closely.
The afternoon was thought
provoking and gave our existing Fellows a direct route to influence
these important issues that face the industry.
